It has come to our attention that a man calling himself "Bishop Alejandro Sullon" providing "sacraments" of baptism, first Holy Communion, Confirmation and marriages is planning on being in the area again on August 11. It has been reported that he charges a substantial fee and collects copies of birth certificates. Be advised.... he is NOT a Catholic Bishop! He does not have faculties to administer the sacraments.
The Chancery Office of the Fresno Diocese has been notified that "Bishop Alejandro Sullon" (a.k.a. "Bishop of Bakersfield") is currently advertising an event for sacraments near the outskirts of Visalia on August 11. Please let other families know about this warning.
The "sacraments" he administers are canonically illicit and may not be registered in parish registers; nor should they be recognized as Catholic sacraments. Marriages he witnesses are likely canonically invalid. Families should be also aware that handing over documents, such as birth certificates in these situations opens them up to the possibility of identity theft.
